To get away from the rain, Mauritius

Mark Twain was right to say that “Mauritius was made first, then the sky, and that the sky was copied after Mauritius”. The tropical island, once haunted by pirates, is now better known as a haven of peace with luxury hotels on white sandy beaches and volcanic mountains.

It is an island to explore, with Indian temples, colonial houses, botanical gardens, and opportunities to observe rare birds among flying ebony, walk with lions or swim with dolphins.

The Country
Mauritius, officially known as the Republic of Mauritius, is an island nation located off the southeast coast of the African continent in the Indian Ocean. It is a volcanic island of lagoons and palm-lined beaches with coral reefs surrounding most of the coast. The island is located about 2400 kilometres off the southeast coast of Africa. The island covers an area of 1,865 square kilometres, with 330 kilometres of coastline. This tiny island is located in the east of Madagascar, twice as large as Hong Kong, but with only one million inhabitants. This tropical island offers moderate temperatures, mild trade winds and generous sunshine. You will also find natural history, lively markets and lively festivals. Find out why you should visit the island at least once.

The City
Located on the east coast of Mauritius, Belle Mare has a magnificent fine sandy beach and a turquoise sea. You can not only swim but also enjoy many aquatic activities (scuba diving) thanks to the presence of a coral reef that protects the beach and makes the lagoon ideal. And if Belle Mare is a very touristic destination, it has nevertheless managed to preserve unexplored corners, or almost, like Île aux Cerfs, a paradisiacal islet near the destination and where you can find desert corners at the late hours of the day.
